This planet is home to a simple ecosystem situated around the hydrothermal vents in its single ocean. At the base of the ecosystem is a genus of single celled organisms capable of chemosynthesis on a specific sulfur compound. A diverse array of multicellular organisms exploit these, typically 'farming' them on their kelp-like bodies. Sinewy, motile creatures act as ectoparasites, scurrying through the jungles of kelp, chewing off the thinnest, and thereby easiest to digest, outgrowths. With its limited energy input, it is unlikely that this ecosystem will advance to much further heights without outside assistance. ...
