dakotastrange's pageTrials, Tribulations & Rantings of a SPACED OUT ARTIST IN OUTER SPACE Oops. Having no background in the Sciences, other than the necessary or trivial, I must plead 'Ignorance' to the Galaxican rule of observing the laws of physics. While scientist set out to prove their theories; we, artist set out to disprove ours. So one can immediately see the conflict in asking me to obey structured rules that I don't understand. BUT, I offer up in my defense my understanding of M (String Theory) which states that the implausible and improbable can and does exist throughout this and other universes. Color me colorless. So as the proverbial tree falling in the forest and there being no sound with no animal around, would it not also be colorless? Grey, perhaps, but then wouldn't a very intense white reflect stronger light? I've studied quite a number of color theories and, perhaps, this is why in my Galaxican role I get hung up in optics. We know the human eye is quite simple in structure, and it is the first organ that develops in an embryo (Nature knocks the easiest things out first), yet...here's the artist again...do we use it to its fullest? I surmise the earliest humans could not detect the lion in tall grass or the poisonous green snake in the grass, but either through experience or evolution of the senses, today what alert individual doesn't detect the mantis or chameleon on a leaf ? And, as many color theories suggest, we have only learned to see some colors in the most recent of times. For example, fifty years ago, if one went to buy paint and asked for "white" he would get "white". Today, he'd be overwhelmed by the dozens upon dozens of different toned whites on the shelves. This could be credited to manufacturing or demand, but the demand would not be there if the consumer could not differentiate between the tones. The point I am trying to make in my round about way is: if we knew what we were looking for and how to look at it, might we be able to see other dimensions. Is that silent, colorless tree also without scent? I'd like to know how the moon smells, or does it take atmosphere? It would seem important that we had scent detectors on any space mission as our sense of smell often warns us of danger. How could we colonize a planet that reaked from obnoxious odors? I've added "Brownbetty" to my Starpatch Collective, which has the distinction of being the "Sweetest Smelling Star in the Universe." To collect or not. The idea of collecting star systems in the Galaxiki seems rather interesting, but then I'm at a loss as to how to select a specific area...should I collect only superred giants or only systems with three planets or one of each kind, etc., etc. At the present, I've got a group of systems, "Starpatch Collective", but other than being in the same neighborhood, there's no common theme. Decisions, decisions... Pesky people. It's hard enough to try to describe a planet with 165 moons. Now, we can dismiss most of the moon as being barren lumps, but knowing in our own solar system a planet's moons, such as Saturn, is of as great if not greater interest than the planet itself, that seems like a cop out. Putting on my Creator mantel, I've played with a few life forms only to find that it would take volumes to just describe their forms. Itain'teasybeingagod!! Trying to follow a basic rule of design: "form follows function," I realized not only is an anatomical description necessary but I also had to describe their environment, socio-economic status, predators, etc. Just to get basic and say a life-form's main purpose is to propagate its species...I'm just not interested in compiling the ET Kama Sudra. Such pests. Who. Outside the Galaxican realm, I'm an artist who has lived and worked throughout the South.
